Community Testimonials

"Being a first responder takes a certain type of person, one that gives and expects nothing in return. You all are part of a first responder family. As a fellow responder, I wish you the best in all you do and a safe return home at the end of each call. Thank you again for putting your lives on the line."

"I was on scene below the rollover on Imogene today. My Jeeping partner was the first to contact 911.

I'm a flatlander so seeing mountain rescue in action was sombering and awe-inspiring. I just wanted to make sure you know that you are much appreciated.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

"I must take this opportunity to express to you, each and every one, our gratefulness for rescuing our dear friends last Saturday, August 17th on Corkscrew Pass. We have begun referring to the incident as the "Miracle on Corkscrew Pass" given the relatively minor injuries they sustained after what seemed an endless series of violent rolls to the very distant bottom of that gorge. Immediately following their fall, seeing no movement for minutes in or around the overturned UTV…I was certain they were critically injured or deceased.

Your response time was extraordinarily quick, your expertise obvious and very comforting as we all stood on the trail watching helplessly as you rescued Randy and Michele.

Your organization and volunteers are certainly the pride of SW Colorado and deserve unending appreciation and deep gratitude from all who have or may ever require your services. Congratulations on a rescue well done! We nine people are forever grateful."

“I was a beneficiary of your team’s services on September 12th at Blue Lakes.

I cannot imagine how I would have gotten off that trail without the team.  I dislocated my ankle and broke my tibia and fibula.  I now am the proud owner of one screw on one side of my foot and a plate and eight screws in the other as the result of that day.

I am still get emotional thinking about it.  Everyone on the team was amazing.  I appreciate the compassion and kindness shown while working their butts off to carry me to safety.  It’s a very humbling and vulnerable feeling to be strapped to a board and put your faith in strangers but they quickly put me at ease.

I plan to send another donation next month, as well as few in 2025.  It’s the very least I can do to show my appreciation for all you do.

Y’all are priceless and the community is so lucky to have your team represent them.

I could never express my sincere appreciation.

Thank you!”

"You never think something like this will happen to you, but as I was hiking with my friends on the Weehawken trail one day in June, “wam bam,” down I went. I twisted my ankle and it soon became evident that I would not be able to hike out on my own. My friends hurried to the car to call Ouray Mountain Rescue.

I was so surprised to see a team of rescuers within the hour. Their response was so quick, the crew was obviously well trained, and I had no idea there was such amazing equipment available to transport injured people down the mountain to safety.

I am very grateful to the dedicated responders who answered the call that day to help “wheelbarrow” me down the mountain. My thanks to all."

"On August 21, the Team participated in a rescue from a bad accident that occurred to our family on the jeep road in Ouray County leading from federal Highway 550 to Poughkeepsie Creek to Mineral Point and on up to Engineer Mountain and Pass. I can find no words adequate to thank all of you for your thoughtful, competent, and sensitive help.

The kindnesses and sensitivities of the Ouray Mountain Rescue Team to the stresses of the accident situation were exemplary. As you know, all three of us in the vehicle avoided serious injury, in no small part because of your skillful assistance.

Thank you profoundly for your humanity and goodness. Bravo, and high fives for the Ouray Mountain Rescue Team! We shall never forget your splendid example and inspiration!"
