After years of planning, hard work, and an unprecedented outpouring of support from our community and many supporters, the Ouray Mountain Rescue Team received a Certificate of Occupancy for our new rescue facility in November 2008. Without the generous support of so many people, this dream could not have been realized – the OMRT rescue barn stands as a testament grass-roots efforts.
The new facility is located just South of Ouray near the Ouray Ice Park and consists of 3 oversized bays on the ground level, where our vehicles and heavy equipment are stored. The upstairs serves as a meeting and training area. The Team is moved into the building now and we have already put it to good use for a variety of Team functions and training exercies. The facility also served as a medical base station during the Ouray Ice Festival. Stop by the next time you are in Ouray and check it out.
You too can be a part of the Ouray Mountain Rescue Team barn! To raise funds for the construction of our rescue barn, we embarked on an ambitious commemorative brick program. The response from the local community, and our many supporters around the world was overwhelming, to say the least. These bricks are installed on a special wall outside the facility and serve as true tribute to our many supporters. Although our major construction efforts are behind us, maintaining our facility is big part of our annual budget planning process. Therefore, our Brick Campaign continues, with all proceeds devoted exclusively to the care and maintenance of our facility.
